REMINDERS:
If fibrin appears in the drain bag, Heparin should be added to all instilled bags until this clears.
If you have abdominal pain, this may be an early sign of peritonitis. Contact the PD clinic immediately so that we can address this rapidly.
Protect yourself against constipation.
There are no shortcuts to a ensuring safe exchanges; follow the instructions for hand washing and sterile technique for each time the transfer set is handled.
If you feel the transfer set was contaminated: keep the Twist-Lock closed, put a clean cap on the tip of the catheter, and contact the PD clinic to arrange changing the transfer set as soon as possible.

If there is redness or crusting at the exit site, you may require antibiotic cream and extra care of the area in PD clinic. Notify the nurse to address this immediately.
If there is tenderness or swelling along the course of the catheter in your abdominal wall, notify Dr. Curtis Lee immediately.
Immersion bathing, hot tubs, swimming/diving/snorkeling are not allowed due to the risk of infecting your catheter site. There are no short cuts to keeping the site clean and dry.
